What better time to get ‘festie with your bestie’ then experiencing the Festival of Lights in Vandusen’s Botanical Garden! With each holiday season, we find that this is a #Vancouver favourite, and it shows! With every ticket including a carousel ride, what better than enjoying the lights with a 360-degree view!

#Vandusen’s Christmas display has been one of the biggest holiday activities, (and the longest running…34 years!) before the Christmas Market came into play (which is also one of our favourites). Its uniqueness stands on a few exciting highlights, one being that it is in the middle of a quiet residential neighbourhood, away from the hustle and bustle. Another being the landscape which forms around the various garden areas with an emphasis on a theme each year and a local history!

Fun for the whole family, all ages event you can be sure to catch the ‘dancing lights’ on the Livingstone lakefront in the middle of the park. Without giving it away, the Nutcracker theme song plays a big role in the dance. With the lights hitting ‘high’ lights and ‘low’ lights. (You didn’t think I’d give it all a way did you!). The best I can describe it is to go see for yourself, and experience it firsthand…but not before you grab a #hotcocoa to keep those fingers warm.

Throughout the park are various little food stands to range from ‘chestnuts roasting on an open fire’ to hot cocoa stands, a small baked goods section and more! All the while, you keep happy, less-hungry and who doesn’t like a photo op  #ELFie with a coffee mug? There is Santa’s kitchen, the Fireside lounge and Ooooo Frosty’s Patio (& bar) too,  so Jack Frost can nip at your nose!

For the kids…or the ones at heart, a little elf may lead you to dear old #St. Nick! You may also get a chance to kick it with Santa and go over your wish list! It’s usually a cosy place to be with Santa having a log fire in his small vacation home that he has set up. But kids….. make sure to watch your family when you leave the hut, I hear last year that a ‘grandma got run over by a reindeer’, so heads up there!

As special as it is to have Christmas with your family, there is also a small place I encourage everyone to go to. The candle lighting,  #Make-a-Wish foundation, lights up a small portion of the park and for a good cause! By donation, you can light your own candle and contribution to this great charity helping others in need.
